As the Olympics wind up, world attention turns to a unique
sport offered in Kenya’s Samburu County, the famous Maralal Camel Derby set for
24th – 26th August
at Yare Camel Camp. Through an aggressive market campaign by the Kenya Tourist
Board, this year’s event will be one of the biggest ever with camel riders from
over 7 countries set to participate.
Maralal, which is about 348kms North of Nairobi, is hot and
dry providing a favorable climate for the single humped dromedary camel.
The three-day race will event also include camel ride
competition for amateurs and pros as well as Tri-camel-thon, 10km fun run, 5km
run for the physically challenged, bike races, and donkey rides.
