Kenya finished out of the medal brackets in the women’s
3000m steeplechase final at the ongoing London Olympics on Monday night.
Milcah Chemos battled
to the finish with Ethiopia’s Sofia Assefa coming fourth in a time of 9:09.88
while compatriot Mercy Njoroge finished a distant tenth posting a time of 9:26.73.
The race was won by Russia’s Yuliya Zaripova in a time of 9:6.72
ahead of Tunisia’s Habiba Ghribi who clocked 9:08.37. Third place went to
Ethiopia’ Sofia Assefa clocking 9:09.84.
Kenya has so far won one gold (Ezekiel Kemboi), two silver (Priscah
Jeptoo and Sally Kipyego) and two bronze (Vivian Cheruiyot and Abel Mutai) medals to
be ranked third in Africa.
