Commonwealth champion Jason Dunford bagged Kenya’s third
gold medal in the 50m freestyle sprint on the final day of the 11th African
Senior Swimming Championships held at the Kasarani grounds, Sunday.
Continuing with the spectacular performance from earlier in
the week, Dunford finished in 23.01 seconds to break a 14-year-old African
record set by South Africa’s Roland Schoeman and Algeria’s Salim Iles of 23.03.
Algeria’s Oussama Sahnoune (23.11) came in second for silver
ahead of Mohammed Abdelmegid (23.82) of Egypt who took bronze.
Kenya finished with 129 points and 5th overall
with 6 medals all courtesy of a brilliant Jason Dunford.
