Kenya’s X-Calibur Shahidi (Richmond Sangara) was crowned the
Nokia Don’t Break The Beat winner in a hotly contested rap battle at Club
Ichonic, Racecourse on Saturday evening.
X-Calibur left fellow compatriot and crowd favourite Kevin
Otieno bettwr known as Ojiji settling for second runners-up in East Africa one
of a kind hip-hop freestyle competition sponsored by multinational telecom giant
Nokia.
The rapper pocketed the grand prize of Sh250,000, a chance
to record a track with International acclaimed Kenyan artiste Stella Mwangi aka
STL and the chance to record 4 songs, and a one-year contract with Decimal
Records.
The other four East African finalist who showcased their
talent included Tanzania’s duo of Ally Abdallah Chuma and Njama George Mtandika
and the Uganda’s duo of Kkeeya Nicholas and Sebbowa Kizito.
A star-studded line up led by STL and the likes of Kenya’s
producer and rapper Madtraxx, Uganda’s Keko and Mwana Fa from Tanzania
entertained the audience at the grand finale.
STL performed her latest track titled ‘Stella, Stella,
Stella’, before its international release scheduled for next week.
