East Africa’s leading Pay TV provider Zuku has secured the Kenyan
broadcast rights to French top division, Ligue 1 for the next three seasons.
Through its customized Zuku Sports, five live matches and
five games will be broadcasted on short-delay from each of Ligue’s 1 38 rounds.
The Zuku coverage also comes with weekly previews and highlights shows.
Wananchi Group programming
managing director Hannelie Bekker confirmed the Zuku acquisition last week.
Zuku, which is owned by Wananchi Group Holdings, also offers
other customized programmes that include Zuku Africa and Zuku Life.
The acquisition hopes to give the firm an edge in the competitive
Pay TV market dominated by South Africa’s DSTV (English Premier League
exclusive right holders) and latest entrant Chinese StarTimes.
Apart from being a Pay TV service provider, Zuku Kenya provides
broadband internet connectivity with speeds as high as 20Mbps including a VoIP telephony
service to residential areas and offices through fibre-optic cables.
