The Kenya Rugby Sevens squad advanced to the Main Cup
Quarters of the IRB Gold Coast Sevens in Australia on Saturday after finishing
second in group C.
In his first IRB
World Series in charge of Kenya, Mike Friday's team started the campaign with a 14-14
draw against former side England. A defeat to England looked eminent but a try
from a stunning Ombachi revived Kenya hopes.
After a 14-12 defeat to group winners Samoa, Kenya picked up
itself to down Spain 19-0 to advance to the final eight. Biko Adema’s try and
conversion in the last minute of the first period ensured Kenya sealed its gallant
win. Kenya will now face hosts Australia in the Cup quarterfinals.
Samoa will play against their Pacific rivals Fiji while
England will battle it out with Scotland in the Bowl quarters.
