Shell Rebrands to Vivo Energy Kenya



Oil marketing firm Shell Kenya has rebranded to Vivo Energy Kenya following completion of a sale agreement with 2 foreign firms.

Parent firm Royal Dutch Shell sold majority stake in its African business that deals with retail, distribution and storage of petroleum products. The business was later acquired by Vivo Energy that is 40-percent owned by Dutch firm Vitol Group, 40-percent by African-based private investment firm, Helios Investment Fund and 20-percent Shell.

Established on December 1, 2011 to distribute and market Shell-branded, Shell licensee, Vivo Energy, currently operates in 13 countries including Senegal, Tunisia, Kenya, Morocco, Mali and Namibia

The firm has also appointed Polycarp Igathe as the new managing director. Mr. Igathe is the former regional managing director of Haco Tiger Brands.

The new name will only affect the corporate identity. Retail outlets will continue bearing the brand name Shell.
