Over 50 girl teams are expected to participate in the ninth
edition of the annual MYSA girl’s tournament at the Mathare Youth Sports
Association (MYSA) in Nairobi. The tourney kicks off on Tuesday, August 28th
at the Nairobi Technical Institute (NTTI) and closes on Thursday, August 30th
.
This year’s tourney theme is ‘Protect the girl child for a better future’ and will see the
launch of a new project in MYSA, the Gender & Youth Rights Protection Unit.
The unit will offer a safe space for all association members
while dealing with children protection, rights advocacy and healthy
relationship advocacy for its over 25000 members who are averagely 14 years.
The matches will be played in 10 different community soccer
grounds that include those of NTTI in Pangani, Mathare 4A Primary School,
Komarock, Eastleigh Community Center, Baba Dogo and Drive in Primary School.
For over 20 years, MYSA has remained the only organization
that holds girls’ soccer leagues and with the most successful tournaments for more than 7 years that showcase girls’ talent in the country.
