Kenyans amazing in Rome Diamond League

Vivian Cheruiyoit the World 5000m and 10000m champion was the winner of the women’s 5000m race in Rome, Italy yesterday after a fierce run with Ethiopia’s Meseret Defar. Cheruiyot hopes that yesterday’s performance and victory in Doha will make meet the London 2012 selection.

Paul Koech was another victor after defending his Samsung Diamond League title at the 3000m Steeplechase in 7:54.31. He was followed by his fellow countrymen Abel Mutai, Jarius Birech and world champion Ezekiel Kemboi respectively.

Pamelo Jelimo settled for second after the Ethiopian Fantu Magiso dashed past her near the tape to claim the 800m. Janet Jepkosgei came 5th in the same race that saw South African Caster Semenya claim eighth place.

Hellen Obiri also finished second in the 1500m, which was won by Ethiopian Abeba Aregawi who set a new world record of 3:56.54.
