Kenyan new crime drama, Nairobi Half Life has been nominated
for the 85th Academy for Motion Pictures Arts and Science
(AMPAS), better known as The Oscars in the “Best Foreign Language Film”
category.
The film, which becomes
the first ever in Kenya to contend for an Oscar Award, received international
acclaim back in July when its leading actor Joseph K. Wairimu won the best
actor award at the 33rd edition of the Durban International
Film Festival.
‘Nairobi Half Life’ narrates a story of a young
aspiring actor [Mwas] who leaves his hometown for Nairobi, the city of
opportunity to pursue his dreams. Unfortunately, after setting foot in Nairobi
he’s robbed of all his money and belongings and left alone in a city that he
doesn’t know anyone. However, he braves the up and downs of life in the city to
survive and become successful.

It is directed by David
Tosh Gitonga and produced by Sarika Hemi Lakhani, Marie Steinmann, Ginger
Wilson, and Tom Tykwer. It stars Olwenya Maina, Nancy Wanjiku Karanja and
Mugambi Nthiga.
The official Academy
Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, 24th February
2013 in the famous Dolby Theatre, Hollywood.
