Massmart preparing to enter Kenyan retail market

South African retailer Massmart Holdings Ltd is planning to enter the competitive and fast-growing Kenyan retail market by 2014.  
The supermarket, which was recently acquired by global retail giant WalMart, has already reserved some space in the Garden City shopping mall along Thika Road in Nairobi and construction is expected to start on December and be completed by May 2014.

Women for Conjestina up for boxing



A big event is going down tonight at Crescendo Bar & Grill in Karen, dubbed Women for Conjestina Boxing Tournament  the amateur boxing will raise funds for the former middleweight champion and Kenya's most celebrated female boxer Conjestina Achieng.

The star-studded women boxing matches lineup include Media personality Pinky Ghelani, TV presenter Lillian Muli, Radio Presenters Kalekye Mumo and Laura Walubengo, The Premier’s wife Ida Odinga, Diplomat Yvonne Khamati, Musicians Susan Owiyo and Iddi Achieng, Fashion Designer Ann Mc Creath and Nominated Member of Parliament Rachel Shebesh.

Guinness Football Challenge 3 is here

The Guinness Football Challenge is back with the third season expected to be big, better and different from the previous one.
The Challenge, which gives Passionate fans an opportunity to showcase their football skills and vast knowledge in football, will see participants stand a chance of hitting the jackpot of $250,000 in this season’s competition.
As Guinness expands the competition to become more Pan African, season three will have 8 countries participating with Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania representing East Africa while West Africa will be represented by Cameroon, Gabon, Ghana, Cote d’Iviore, and Senegal.
Those who will emerge winners from their respective countries will be flown to South Africa where they will be pitched against each other. 15 teams will then advance to the 2013 TV show where 5 will be from East Africa with the rest from West Africa.  Afterwards, 12 TV shows will be aired with 4 teams appearing in each show.  

The event schedule in Kenya
Recruitment exercise will kick off on 20th of October in Mombasa with that of Nairobi and Nakuru slated for November.
Winners from Kenya will be pitched against winners from Tanzania and Uganda to pick the 5 teams that will represent East Africa in South Africa.  
Participants like in earlier seasons are in pairs with one demonstrating his football skills while his partner vast knowledge for football.

Social Media monitoring app launched in Kenya




Will help firms and interested individuals track consumer sentiments made in online platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.
A mobile phone application developed to monitor social media campaigns for both clients and competitors while giving feedback on whether posts are positive or negative, has been unveiled in the Kenya market.
The app dubbed ‘PRPro’ was unveiled by American based advertising agency, TBWA, and Kenyan startup African Laughter. It is currently available on Facebook and Twitter and monitors social media platforms for posts after a user specifies a keyword or a set of keywords.

Nonini, Nameless & Camp Mulla Nominated For BEFFTA Awards


Two Kenyan musicians and a leading group have been nominated in the 2012 Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts (BEFFTA) Awards which will take place on 27th of October at the Hippodrome in London, UK.
Kenya’s award-winning hiphop group, Camp Mulla has received nominations in the category ‘Best International Act’ where they will face Zahara, Cover Drive, Nigeria’s Dbanj, Grace Galaxy, and Ruff Kid.

The event will run from 1 to 7pm.
