Kenya secures 1.32billion loan from Belgium for Ngong Wind Farm

The Government of Kenya has secured a Sh1.32billion loan from the Belgian Government and Belgium’s KBC Bank to finance the installation of Wind turbines at the KenGen’s Ngong Hills power plant.
The loan agreement, which was signed on Wednesday by Finance minister Njeru Githae, includes a state-to-state zero interest credit agreement of 6 million Euros and a concessional credit agreement with KBC Bank of Belgium of 6.36 million Euros.

Wamathai Spoken Word Slated for 22nd September



September’s Wamathai Spoken Word will take place on Saturday, the 22nd September at the Michael Joseph Centre.
The annual event offers veteran and up-coming poets, photographers, as well as musician a platform to showcase their talents.

Safaricom calls for support for Kenyan Sprinters

Kenya is internationally referred to as an athletics powerhouse following the consistent and remarkable performance in athletic events. However, the decoration is a reserve of long and middle-distance runners. Sprints and field events on the other hand have continued to show dismal performance.
Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore has urged the government and other stakeholders to support the growth of sprint and field sports in the country.

Camp Mulla nominated for 2012 MTV EMA



It was only Monday that Kenya’s award-winning hip-hop Camp Mulla was nominated for ‘Best African Act’ at UK’s MOBO Awards. Now the group has received another big nomination according to the recently announced 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA).  
The group has been nominated alongside Nigeria’s Wizkid, D’Banj, South Africa’s Mi Casa and Senegalese Sarkodie in the ‘Best African Act’category.   
The awards will take place at the Festhalle in Frankfurt, Germany on November 11th.

MTV introduced the World Wide Act category last year, and 5 regions are under the category - Africa/India/Middle East, Asia Pacific, North America, Latin America and Europe. The nominee with the highest vote in each region will be nominated for World Wide Act.

Barbadian R&B singer Rihanna leads the pack with six nominations at the 2012 MTV EMA while Taylor Swift follows closely behind with five nominations.

Zuku acquires Ligue 1 Rights in Kenya



East Africa’s leading Pay TV provider Zuku has secured the Kenyan broadcast rights to French top division, Ligue 1 for the next three seasons.  
Through its customized Zuku Sports, five live matches and five games will be broadcasted on short-delay from each of Ligue’s 1 38 rounds. The Zuku coverage also comes with weekly previews and highlights shows.
Wananchi Group programming managing director Hannelie Bekker confirmed the Zuku acquisition last week.
Zuku, which is owned by Wananchi Group Holdings, also offers other customized programmes that include Zuku Africa and Zuku Life.

The acquisition hopes to give the firm an edge in the competitive Pay TV market dominated by South Africa’s DSTV (English Premier League exclusive right holders) and latest entrant Chinese StarTimes.
Apart from being a Pay TV service provider, Zuku Kenya provides broadband internet connectivity with speeds as high as 20Mbps including a VoIP telephony service to residential areas and offices through fibre-optic cables.

‘Tales from The Bushlarder’ airs on Zuku Africa

Zuku recently launched an exciting cooking show titled ‘Tales from the Bushlarder’. The show takes viewers to a culinary tour of Kenya and her unusual and unknown gastronomic delights.   
The show, which is hosted by Chef Kiran Jethwa airs on Zuku Africa Ch. 100 and Zuku.
Catch Chef Kiran every Thursday at 8:30pm as he searches for ingredients in the ‘bush larder’.   
Chef Kiran is the owner of Nairobi’s Seven Seafood & Grill.     

Camp Mulla Nominated for MOBO Awards 2012



Kenya’s Camp Mulla is certainly riding on the waves of international fame and acclaim as the award-winning hip-hop group has yet again received nomination for an international award.   
The multi-talented group was nominated on Monday for the ‘Best African Act’ in the 2012 MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) Awards.  
Camp Mulla who were also nominated for a BET award earlier in the year, becomes the first Kenyan act to  receive nomination for the UK-based MOBO Awards.
The awards, currently in their 17th year will be held at the Liverpool’s Echo Arena on 3rd November, 2012.
