KCB wins 2012 Driftwood Sevens

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) are the 2012 Driftwood Sevens champions after beating Kenya Harlequins (Quins) 17-10 in a thrilling main cup final played at the Mombasa Sports Club on Sunday afternoon.

The bankers who also boast winning the 2012 Prinsloo Sevens sealed the win after a spectacular conversion from Collins Kimani.

Quins however, walked home heads high as the overall winners of the 2012 edition of national sevens circuit after finishing top in the national log.

In the Plate finals, Impala beat Nakuru 17-0 to emerge the winners of the Plate title.  

In the Bowl finals, Western Bulls shocked former champions Mwamba RFC, beating them 10-0 to lift the Bowl title.

In the Spear finals, Mount Kenya beat JKUAT Voi 12-5 to take the Spear.

In the Shield finals, Comras beat Stormers 10-5 to lift the Shield title.    

The driftwood sevens marked the final leg of the National Sevens Circuit, which saw circuit leaders Kenya Harlequins bag the Christies Sevens, Dala Sevens, and Kabeberi Sevens while KCB win the Driftwood sevens, and Prinsloo sevens.    

Rugby Action resumes this Friday at the Nyayo National Stadium for the 2012 Safaricom Safari Sevens.  

Kenya Harlequins will participate in the event courtesy of being the overall winners of the national sevens circuit.

KCB win 2012 Prinsloo Sevens in Nakuru

KCB beat hosts Nakuru RFC 36-0 to be crowned the 2012 Prinsloo Sevens Champions in a fascinating main cup final played at the Nakuru Athletics Club on Sunday afternoon.

Oliver Mangemi opened the score sheet with a sleek try giving the Banker’s a glimpse of the title, while teammate Francis Mwita try and a conversion by Collins Kimani sealed the win.    

In the Plate final, Christies Sevens and Dala Sevens champions Quins beat Blak Blad 12-5 to clinch the plate title. Sunday wasn’t the day Kenya Harlequins would make a third consecutive title in the national sevens circuit after it was knocked out of the main cup by a gallant Nakuru side in the semifinals.

However, Harlequins remains a confident side after it had played without 10 of their regular starters who were released to the National Sevens rugby team camp at the Moi International Sports Centre – Kasarani.

In the Bowl final, Homeboys beat Mean Machine 12-5 in a thrilling bowl final to bag the bowl title.

In the Shield final, Nondies beat a resilient Eldoret side 10-0 to win the Shield.  

Action resumes in the capital Nairobi this coming weekend (8-9^th September) for the Kabeberi Sevens.

Kabeberi 7s is a rugby tournament, which is part of the National Sevens Circuit in memory of the Late George Mwangi Kabeberi who played for Mwamba RFC.

The tourney is hosted by Mwamba RFC, Kenya’s first club to be formed by indigenous Africans in 1977.  

Prinsloo Sevens Draw released

The draw for the 2012 Menegai Oil Prinsloo Sevens is out, the Prinsloo 7s which marks the 3^rd leg of the national sevens circuit will be held at the Nakuru Athletics Club from 1^st to 2^nd September.  

In Pool ‘A’, this year’s Christies and Dala 7s champs Quins are pooled alongside Daystar, UNICEF Kakamega and Eldoret RFC.

In Pool ‘B’, Defending national sevens circuit champs Mwamba RFC will face Thika, Stormers and Molo.

In Pool ‘C’, KCB takes on KCA, Blak Blad and Multimedia.

In Pool ‘D’, Strathmore are drawn with Kisumu RFC, Masaku and Bungoma.

In Pool ‘E’, Impala RFC will take on Catholic Univeristy, Western Bulls and Tanzania.

In Pool ‘F’, hosts Nakuru are pooled alongside Homeboys, Nondies and Machine.

The National Sevens Circuit will return to Nairobi on 8^th September for the Kabeberi Sevens.

Quins wins 2012 Dala Sevens

Kenya Harlequins beat Mwamba RFC to be crowned the 2012 Dala Sevens Champions a week after clinching the Christies Sevens at their home ground on Ngong Road.

Quins beat the defending nation circuit champions 28-17 in a fascinating main cup final played at the Kisumu Polytechnic on Sunday afternoon. Mwamba RFC put up a good fight but could not stop the side that beat them last Sunday.

In the Plate finals, Impala beat Homeboys 10-7 to claim the plate title.

In the Bowl finals, Strathmore beat KCA 43-0 to win the bowl.

In the Shield finals, Daystar beat Thika 17-5 to win the shield.

In the Spear finals, Bungoma beat Kakamega to win the Spear.

The national circuit heads to Nakuru town for the Prinsloo sevens next weekend with Quins remaining the team to beat after bagging the 2012 Masaku 7s, Christies 7s, and now the Dala 7s.

Dala Sevens day one results

The National Sevens Circuit headed to the Lakeside city of Kisumu for its second leg, the Dala Sevens that kicked off at the Kisumu Polytechnic grounds on Saturday.

Eight sides are through to the main cups that include Quins and Western Bulls (Pool ‘A’), Mwamba and Nakuru (Pool ‘B’), KCB and Kisumu (Pool ‘C’) and Homeboys and Impala (Pool ‘D’).

Bowl qualifiers include Catholic University, UNICEF, Strathmore, Comras, Stormers, Mumias, KCA, and Kisumu II.  

Spear qualifiers include Busia, Muliro, Kisii, Molo, Kakamega, Bungoma, Mbale and Siaya.

Shield qualifiers include Blak Blad, Webuye, Eldoret, Thika, Multimedia, Kericho RFC, Masaku and Daystar.  

Three sides pulled out of the tournament, Moi University and Mean Machine, both due to logistics reasons while Kenya Poly joined their student community in mourning the death of 2 members of the volleyball and athletics teams, following a road accident and were replaced by Busia RFC, Kisumu II, and Kericho RFC respectively.

The withdrawals consequently led to the promotion of KCA and Multimedia to the Division of the competition.

Dala Sevens Draw released

The Dala Sevens draw is out as the second leg of the 2012 National sevens circuit moves to the lakeside city of Kisumu at the Kenya Polytechnic grounds this weekend (August 18-19).

Christie’s champions Kenya Harlequins are ready for the challenge presented by defending KRU Sevens champions Mwamba RFC as well as the other thirty teams battling for the top honors.
