Nokia to Unveil Nokia Life in Kenya
Finnish telecom giant Nokia, today announced that its Nokia Life mobile service will launch in Kenya, through a deal with leading Kenyan telcos Safaricom and Airtel.
First introduced Nokia Life in India in 2009, the service is one of the most popular life improvement information services suites specifically designed for people in emerging markets. It delivers tailored-locally relevant content in local languages and works on a wide variety of Nokia mobile phones, without the need for a data plan.
Dr. Mohamud Said Wins 2013 Harris Wofford Global Citizen Award
Dr. Mohamud Sheikh Nurein Said is the 2013 Harris Wofford Global Citizen Award winner for his significant contribution to peace in Kenya.
After being notified through skype for winning the prestigious prize he had this to say, "My first encounter with a Peace Corps Volunteer was in 1965 when I joined Marsabit Secondary School, Kenya. As a young boy, I wondered why these white people came to the remotest area in Kenya to assist us. Since then, I have been motivated by their spirit of volunteerism, and I never looked back. Throughout my life, from the University to my career as a doctor, I have always been involved in voluntary work and have always tried to serve those who had fewer opportunities than I have had."
2012 KCSE Results to be Released on Friday
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Chief Executive Officer Paul Wasanga has announced today that the council will release the 2012 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) on Friday, March 1, 2013.
Education minister Mutula Kilonzo is expected to announce the results at Mitihani House, Nairobi starting at 10am.
Samuel Kivuitu Passes On
Former Electoral Commission of Kenya Chairman Samuel Kivuitu passed away on Monday night while undergoing treatment at the MP Shah hospital in Nairobi.
The men who was at the helm of the electoral body during the 2007 election had recently declared he was cured from esophagus cancer.
The 74-year-old career lawyer had hoped to be a poll observer in the forthcoming March 4th general election.

Kimetto Leads Clean Sweep in Tokyo Marathon
Dennis Kimetto led a Kenyan clean sweep at the Tokyo Marathon, one of the six World Marathon Majors on Sunday.
The 29-year-old posted a record time of 2 hours, 6 minutes and 50 seconds ahead of compatriots Michael Kipkorir Kipyego and Bernard Kiprop Kipyego who came in second and third respectively.

Housing Finance & Vision 2030 Launch 1 Million Artisans Programme
The Housing Finance Corporation in partnership with the Vision 2030 Delivery Board (VDB) on Friday launched the Army of 1 Million Artisans programme that is geared towards training 1 million building and construction artisans in the country by 2016.

FKF to Name New Stars Coach on Wednesday
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will name the new Harambee Stars coach on Wednesday, February 20th 2013. The new coach will face the first task of guiding Kenya in the FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifiers against newly crowned African champs Nigeria in March.

Kenyan Teams Win in Ericsson's 'Apps for African City Life' Award
Ericsson on Wednesday announced the winners of the 'Apps for African City Life' competition. Senegal's Team Shinsekai bagged the first prize for developing an app that aims to support environmental sanitation and hygiene development in cities.
The second and third prizes went to two Kenyan teams, Easy Parking for their app that aims at helping motorists locate and pay for available parking areas thus reducing fuel consumption, and Tokelezea for their app which enables individuals to locate events and places around them and share the information with their friends.

Shell Rebrands to Vivo Energy Kenya
Oil marketing firm Shell Kenya has rebranded to Vivo Energy Kenya following completion of a sale agreement with 2 foreign firms.
Parent firm Royal Dutch Shell sold majority stake in its African business that deals with retail, distribution and storage of petroleum products. The business was later acquired by Vivo Energy that is 40-percent owned by Dutch firm Vitol Group, 40-percent by African-based private investment firm, Helios Investment Fund and 20-percent Shell.

The luxury hotel, situated on a ten-acre plot near Karen County Club will be opened mid this year, according to Hemingways Collection Chief Eecutive Alastair Addison.
"We will be releasing details in the next few weeks," said Addison on the sidelines of an Uchumi Supermarket event over the weekend. "We will not open the facility until everything is perfect."
The new hotel, thought to be worth slightly over Sh1 billion, will offer employment opportunities for 150 Kenyans, Addison said.

South Africa's PayGate, a payment processing solution has been launched. The new solution will allow consumers in Kenya and neighboring Tanzania to pay for online products and services via M-Pesa.
PayGate's marketing director, Robin Philip explains, “There is very little e-commerce activity in many African countries. But that’s not because people don’t want to be able to buy online – they just haven’t been given the right payment options.”

Huawei 4Afrika by Microsoft and Huawei Unveiled
To tap into Africa's growing market, Microsoft and Chinese phone maker Huawei have teamed to launch a smartphone for Africa. The handset which runs on Windows Phone 8 was unveiled today in five African cities and is the first of several smart phones Microsoft plans to develop for the continent as part of the new 4Afrika Campaign.
The phone will be available in seven countries Kenya, Angola, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa later this month.

Kenyan wins award for bird conservation
A former employee of the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), David Ngala received the 2012 Conservation Hero Award from US-based Disney Worldwide Conservation for protection of rare bird species in Arabuko-Sokoke Forest near Malindi.
The award is given annually to individuals for their efforts to save wildlife, protect habitat and educate the people around them about the importance of environmental conservation.
Mr. Ngala, who was among six people honored from six countries and three continents, received a $1,000 cash award plus Ksh10,000 ($120) from the Imperial Bank.

Kenya was looking forward to its first Main Cup win before the game went into extra time, where each side had 19 points. England struck in sudden death to clinch the coveted Wellington Sevens.
